BACCHUS (link to program)

This was my first time designing costumes for dance. Kara Wilkes (choreographer) explained that this piece was inspired by the Bacchanalia: the ancient Roman festivals dedicated to celebrating the Bacchus, the god of wine. The Maenads (or, Raving Ones) were the female followers of Bacchus who worshipped him by dancing and drinking until they entered a state of ecstatic frenzy. I was mesmerized by the dance's organized chaos set to an experimental electronic track by Kevin Beck and Spencer Aubrey. I decided to go for a classic Grecian silhouette in burgundy, the color of wine.
